You’re in Williamsburg. You need a doctor. And probably sooner rather than later. What are your options? We’re going to break it down quickly for you. It’s either an old school primary care doctor who’s been in the neighborhood for a while, a younger primary care doctor working at a newly opened big hospital practice, urgent care, or a Sherpaa doctor. Alternatively, you can always go into the city if you’re feeling adventurous.
Old School Williamsburg Primary Care
Dr. Mark Kaminski’s practice has been on Bedford and N. 10th for over a decade. We’d like to link to him, but he doesn’t have a website. You can call to see if he has availability and he’ll probably work with your insurance. His reviews are kind of all over the place (3.0 on Yelp). But if you haven’t yet spent your deductible (and 90% of us don’t), like all traditional doctors, he’ll charge you a co-pay and then send you a bill a few weeks later.
Another option is the NYU-affiliated practice on the Southside where two primary care doctors will see you during limited hours. You can call them to see about their availability.
Hours: Varies, but only Mon-Fri
Per Visit Cost: $200-$250 when you add up your co-pay and the bills.
Sherpaa
Sherpaa is a medical practice based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We’re a new kind of practice and we’ve been seeing patients for the last 6 years. You sign up for Sherpaa, download our app, talk with your Sherpaa doctor, and get diagnosed, treated, and prescriptions all within our app. We’re by far the easiest, most affordable way to get care. Your doctor will be talking with you within minutes and all of this can be done from the comfort of wherever you are.
Hours: 24/7/365
Per Visit Cost: Less than the cost of one urgent care visit for as many interactions as you need with your Sherpaa doctor ($25 a month (or $270 a year).
Who’s it for?: Anyone who wants their own personal doctor they can reach 24/7/365 from anywhere in the world. Even if you’re just visiting Williamsburg, we can be your ongoing doctors no matter where you live.
Big Hospital Practice
Mt Sinai opened up a family medicine practice on N. 7th a few years ago. They have five doctors and they have normal weekday hours from 8 am to 5 pm. Since they are family doctors, they treat both children and adults. Like most traditional doctors, you’ve got to pick up the phone and call to check availability and make an appointment.
Hours: 8am to 5pm Mon-Fri
Per Visit Cost: $200-$250 when you add up your co-pay and the bills
Urgent Care
There are two urgent care centers in Williamsburg and one in Greenpoint. There’s a CityMD on N. 7th, a CityMD in Greenpoint on Manhattan Avenue, and a UMD on Driggs and N. 4th.
Hours: 8am to 7 or 8pm everyday
Per Visit Cost: $300-$350 when you add up your co-pay and the bills
As always, Williamsburg offers almost everything you’d need to live well. You’ve got everything from doctors who don’t have websites to the most forward-thinking doctors who are inventing the future practice of medicine, today. Don’t you think summoning your doctor should be just as fast and easy as getting a Lyft on Bedford?
